H1N1 Warning

H1N1 or swine flu is a type of flu that people can get.  Just like the seasonal flu, H1N1 flu can cause complications in certain populations or if symptoms are not treated.
Who is at risk:  children <5 years of age; Adults >65 years of age; People with certain medical conditions or Pregnant women.People with these medical conditions are at higher risk:  Asthma, Neurological and Neurodevelopmental conditions, Chronic Lung Disease, Heart Disease, Endocrine disorders such as Diabetes, Blood disorders such as Sickle Cell, Kidney Disorders, Liver disorders, Metabolic disorders and weakened immune systems.
Most people won't need medical care or antiviral drugs and will recover in less than two weeks. This years Flu shot has the swine flu, H1N1, virus included in the vaccine.  Treatment is to relieve symptoms.
Prevention- Flu vaccine, Good hand washing, using tissues when coughing or sneezing, discarding used tissues, stay away from sick people.
Signs and symptoms - fever, non-productive cough, sore throat, body aches and pains, fatigue, respiratory symptoms.
S&S that require medical intervention - Difficulty breathing, pain or pressure in chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, severe or persistent vomiting, flu like symptoms that improve but then return with fever and worse cough,
Tamiflu is an antiviral med; usually you take 10 pills,  per Hutcheson it costs $140 per person;  insurances usually pays if a doctor writes a script.
